JRNL: Abandonware Notice

As of May 2024, five years after the initial launch of JRNL, the application has been made free and open source.

The github repository can be found HERE. I strongly encourage those who are technically inclined to fork the repo and build on top of the project.

A note from the dev:

Five years ago, I was in college. I put together the first version of JRNL in a week after being inspired by some incredibly talented individuals on the internet. After release, JRNL was fortunate enough to join the bundles for Palestinian Aid, Ukraine, and Reproductive Rights. It gained users far exceeding what I could have imagined while simultaneously championing important causes.

In the years since, I haven't always (aka rarely) responded to the comments on this page but I made sure to read every single one. The stories of personal journaling success shared in the comments made me incredibly proud of this goofy little app and even more grateful for everyone who gave it a shot.

Only after releasing it did I realize how much personal trust any single person must place into this app to use it. I genuinely cannot convey in text how much that trust means to me.

I know this is not equivalent to a 3.0 update with bug fixes and new features but - as I'm sure many of you can relate - free time is precious and should be spent on things you enjoy. I would like to devote my time wholeheartedly to other projects/hobbies and I could not do that in good conscience while charging money for this app and neglecting requests from users. As such, the JRNL will be made free and the original github repo will be made public.

Once again, I would like to wholeheartedly thank everyone who cares about JRNL and trusted it with their time. You are my success. And I am grateful for the opportunity to have provided an outlet for your precious thoughts.

Sincerely,

 - Saul (Blarfnip)

I have put a lot of my thoughts to writing in ways that i never would have without JRNL. Writing is something I just do not do and JRNL has made it fun. Thank you, Saul. I look forward to making some strange modifications to JRNL.
